These pictures are born as a visual metaphor of the structure of our universe.
Think of each mandala as a visual metaphor of our reality. Human beings usually focus their attention only on one wedge of the mandala, which seems to be a representation determined by Chaos (random signs traced in the space), thus not understanding that what they are looking at is instead a part of a perfectly ordered and harmonious figure which contains their reality.
In the case of these pictures it has been represented a Universe based on 8, but of course there are infinite universes based on infinite numbers.

This is an ongoing project, with new mandalas added from time to time. The mandalas have been created using a mix of digital and analog techniques.
The prints are quite big so that the audience can appreciate the very fine details of the textures.

These pictures are playing with several concepts: simmetry, chaos vs order, hidden images, abstract/figurative, perception of the reality.
The abstract blown ink patterns, when simmetrically reflected and slightly superimposed, create figurative images which you can begin to perceive by staring for some time to each picture. The interesting thing is that each picture has a “theme”, a certain type of figurative pattern which is recurring in different dimensions and shapes. The titles are pointing out this theme for each picture, but of course it is possible that completely different themes are being perceived by the audience.

Another interesting effect is that in some cases reflecting the same pattern in opposite directions creates themes that are conceptually connected (eg. “how many cats/how many mouses”, “how many witches/how many wizards”). Again, this has absolutely no scientific basis, I was mainly interested in exploring the perception’s threshold between abstract and figurative.

On October 17, 2014 the audience of the Como Contemporary Contest has participated in the creation of a big watercolor entitled “Water”.
The artwork has then been sold at an auction on eBay, donating 80% of the proceeds to Water For People, a nonprofit organization which is working to bring safe water to the most needy places on the planet

The artist’s comment

My name’s Kyrian and I am an artist based in Italy. Because I am aware that sometimes contemporary art exhibitions can be boring, I decided to present a big white paper sheet in mine, and let the public co-create the artwork by themselves. I named the artwork “Water” and provided the public with brushes and blue handmade watercolors.

I also wanted to create a little social event around this project, so I decided to dedicate this artwork to those who don’t have enough “Water” on this planet. Water For People is helping me to achieve this by taking 80% of the profits of this atrwork’s sale and using them to bring clean water where it’s needed.

Water is such a basic and overused element for us that we always forget how incredibly wonderful it is… and how little time we would survive without it!
According to Unwater.org 85% of the world population lives in the driest half of the planet and 783 million people do not have access to clean water.

Water is also something that connects all of us (just like air does), not only because roughly 60% of our bodies are composed by it, but also because the water you drink once could have been a cloud coming from a faraway place, then rain or snow or ice, then a bottle on your table. Think about it the next time you drink it.
